Needed - DNS / mod_rewrite / htaccess - Expert, Wiz Kid or Genius by Nick Majors

My objective (which I have been told COUNTLESS times is IMPOSSIBLE) is to add a subdirectory (/images) to my shopify hosted domain -  that I would have full control over - and it's contents could be accessed by either or both 'elightful.ca/images/' - AND - 'www.elightful.ca/images/';.

==========

This gets complicated so please bear with me.

My domain is elightful.ca.
Godaddy is the registrar, name server and hosts my DNS Zone File.

The way it is set up now (and for most people):

  1. If you enter : 'elightful.ca' or 'elightful.ca/(anything)' - it goes to - 'www.elightful.ca'; or 'www.elightful.ca/(anything)';  - because : I have an A record in my DNS Zone that points the root of my domain (@) to 23.227.38.32 (Shopify) - AND BECAUSE - I have set up my Primary Shopify Domain (at Shopify) TO BE 'www.elightful.ca'; for 'elightful.myshopify.com'

  2. If you enter : 'www.elightful.ca'; or 'www.elightful.ca/(anything)'; - it goes to - 'www.elightful.ca'; or 'www.elightful.ca/(anything)'; - because : I have an CNAME Alias record in my DNS Zone that points "www" to 'elightful.myshopify.com' - AND BECAUSE - I have set up my Primary Shopify Domain (at Shopify) TO BE 'www.elightful.ca'; for 'elightful.myshopify.com'

That's so far the same for most everyone - here is where I try to get creative:

If you enter : 'images.elightful.ca' or 'images.elightful.ca/(anything)' - it goes to - 'images.elightful.ca' or 'images.elightful.ca/(anything)'  - because : I created a subdomain (images) including an A record for that subdomain name that points to to a web hosting account at godaddy (107.180.21.19 - currently blank)

The way godaddy works (or my setup, whichever) - you can get to that 'images' subdomain by entering either - 'images.elightful.ca' - or - 'elightful.ca/images - or even - 'www.elightful.ca/images'; - but - that is IF (and ONLY IF) steps 1 & 2 above ARE NOT DONE/IMPLEMENTED (redirecting root to 23.227.38.32 / Shopify with A record -  and - redirecting 'www' to  'elightful.myshopify.com' with a CNAME Record)

If those 2 steps ARE done (as required to be hosted at/by Shopify) - then 'images.elightful.ca' takes you correctly to the subdomain - but - 'elightful.ca/images' and 'www.elightful.ca/images'; both return 404 - Page Not Found errors (beacuse it searches for those directories on the Shopify site where they don't exist)

==========

That's were we start.

I am in way over head on this one and need EXPERT help. Will probably require some creative or lateral thinking.

I have spent countless hours (no days) researching this for several months now - and will gladly pay for any time required to assist / solve / implement what I am trying to do.  (I also think that MANY other shop owners would be interested in a similar setup if it can be made to work)

I can be contacted by email (nick at nickmajors dot com)

Anyone ? - LOL
